Not only delicious, but award-winning too!

Out of all these desserts:

Desserts Table

(And more!), I won third place in my office holiday bake-off.

3rd Prize

(For the curious, 3rd Prize is a Starbucks gift card of undetermined amount.)

The winning flavors were Salted-Caramel with Brownie Bits and Chocolate.

3. Whisk while bringing to a boil.

4. Lower heat and let simmer for ~30 seconds. (Keep whisking!)

5. Remove from heat.

6. Add chocolate chips, stirring until their all melted.
Chocolate Ice Cream Step Two

7. Pour mixture into a separate bowl. Make sure to spatula off all the melted chocolate stuck to the sides.

8. Use the same saucepan to heat the milk, sugar and salt over med/low heat.
Choclate Ice Cream Step Three

9. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. If you are following these instructions, now is also the time to marvel at a picture of the best ever job I have done separating the eggs:
Separated Eggs

10. Pour about half the warm milk into the egg yolks, whisking the whole time.

11. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan.
Choclate Ice Cream Step Four

12. Heat mixture over medium heat while stirring. You do this for about five to six minutes, until the mixture thickens enough that when you run your finger over the back of the spoon it leaves a trail in the mixture. This explanation usually doesn’t work for me, and I just figure when it’s done by the time. But check out this time’s line in the spoon:

13. Pour egg mixture through a strainer into the chocolate mixture.

14. Stir.

15. Add the vanilla.

16. Put in the fridge overnight.
Choclate Ice Cream Step Five

17. Freeze as directed.

OPTIONAL: Bring to office work party.

18. Eat!
